Joseph Morey went to Columbus, Wisconsin three years ago to start a weekly newspaper. Some people there said they were excited to see how it would turn out. "And they said, you will have your own paper," said Helen Petrich, who lived in Columbus.

Columbus entered the air age early: the city was the destination for the world's first air-cargo flight in 1910, the home of the world's youngest licensed pilot in 1911, and the home of World War I flying ace Eddie Rickenbacker. The aviation history of Columbus continued with the opening of Norton Field in 1923, Columbus Airport (later Sullivant Avenue Airport) in 1928, Port Columbus in 1929, and Lockbourne Army Air Base (now Rickenbacker International Airport) in 1942. Port Columbus International Airport had the distinction of being built near a railroad track for a coast-to-coast air-rail service.

Columbus 151 Speedway: Video Sample from June 17, 2001 Heat action

COLUMBUS, WISCONSIN (June 17, 2011)—The oldest racing association in Wisconsin joined the action on Friday night, as the Columbus 151 Speedway hosted the Milwaukee Vintage Stock Cars Running a pair of Heats and a Feature, these historic restored race cars toured the Columbus 151 Speedway oval along with the race track's regular five divisions (Bandits, Hobby Stocks, Sportsmen, Late Models, and the Wild & Crazy Back Ups). This sample video includes footage from the Heat action. The actual race night DVD is 101 minutes long and includes the Trophy Dash, the Heats, and all six Feature races. These Columbus 151 Speedway DVDs are available at the track or can be ordered online by visiting www.juneaucounty.net/video Reaching Victory Lane on Friday night with Columbus 151 Speedway Heat wins were: Brian Titel and Ron Feller (MVSC); Art Blakely, Kenny Storkson, and Seth Reamer (Bandits); Jared Vike and Micheal Held (Hobby Stocks); Kevin Anderson, Ed Jackson, and Ben Hewitt (Sportsmen); Rob Retallick, Eric Connell, and Joel Soenksen (Late Models). Columbus 151 Speedway Feature wins went to: Nick Wendt (Late Models), Kevin Anderson (Sportsmen), Ben Monday (Hobby Stocks), Mike Storkson (Bandits), and Matt Wachuta (Wild & Crazy Back Ups). Dale Waldren took home the checkers in the Milwaukee Vintage Stock Car Association Feature race.
